The Daily News

daily news

The Daily News is a widely read English-language daily newspaper in South Africa. It is the country’s oldest and most widely circulated newspaper, with an average circulation of over 200,000 copies each day. The News is also the largest employer in the media sector, with over 4,000 journalists and staff members. The News is a member of the Independent Media group, which is owned by media entrepreneur and businessman John Vorster and his family.

The paper was founded in 1919, and is the first U.S. daily printed in tabloid format. The newspaper is currently owned by tronc, and is the ninth-largest daily newspaper in the United States. It is known for its strong New York City focus and coverage of local news, particularly the Yankees, Mets, and Giants, as well as its political commentary. It has a long history of being politically conservative, though in recent years it has become more moderate to liberal.

It has a strong social justice focus and has frequently come under fire for its coverage of race and gender issues, as well as its editorial stance on the Israel-Hamas conflict. The News has also been critical of the Trump administration, and in 2017 ran a special section on alleged sexual assaults committed by White House advisers.

In an era of massive disruption to journalism, this is the story of what happens when a community loses its newspaper and citizens try to fill in the gap. The lessons learned in McKeesport will resonate in cities and towns across the country as ‘news deserts’ proliferate. Andrew Conte’s anatomy of the process, written in a compelling style that will appeal to general readers, is a must-read for anyone interested in journalism and in how the future may shape up.

Designed by Raymond Hood and John Mead Howells, the former Daily News building at 220 East 42nd Street in Manhattan was an official city and national landmark. It was the model for the Daily Planet building in the first two Superman films. The current headquarters, at 450 West 33rd Street in Midtown Manhattan, are much more modern.
